“And I looked, and behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer.”
Revelations 6:2

From the very beginning of Ubisoft’s Farcry 5, we are introduced to the character of Sheriff Earl Whitehorse. We play as one of his deputies. As such, he’s our boss. Whitehorse accompanies the deputies and a Federal Marshal to take in Joseph Seed. The game, or more accurately the inhabitants of Hope County, suggest that it is the Seed family who are the villains of the game. This character analysis suggests something otherwise. In fact, Sheriff Whitehorse might, in fact, be the antichrist.
Whitehorse
One of the most beautiful aspects of Farcry 5’s gaming experience and world, is the intricate weave of Biblical mythos in a modern setting. It’s difficult for us in this modern age of science and contrasting religious views to picture the days of Abraham today. However, despite the often archaic laws and beliefs held within the Bible, it does paint quite a clear picture of the one believed to be the antichrist.
The antichrist is the nemesis of Christ. Some call him Satan. Others believe it is the son of Satan--much how Jesus is the son of God. Whichever it is, the antichrist is bad news. The trickiest thing about him, however, is that it’s difficult to tell who the antichrist actually is. There are hints, certainly, but with how deceptive the antichrist is painted to be in the Bible, actually figuring out who the antichrist is can be quite difficult.
In Farcry 5, I believe that Whitehorse may actually be the game’s true villain. Stick with me here. First, let’s examine the name. Whitehorse. Of all the names that Ubisoft could have chosen, they went with this one specifically. Why is it significant? Let’s revisit that verse from Revelations 6:2 posted earlier in the blog.
“And I looked, and behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer.”
White horse. Whitehorse. You see? Whitehorse is the rider on the biblical white horse. He is there to conquer and defeat. Most importantly, he is given a crown. This crown symbolizes that he is the antichrist. Still not convinced? Let’s go into the reason as to why Whitehorse is there in the first place.
The Destruction of Christ
Now, as this site described earlier, it holds the theory of Joseph Seed as the second coming of Christ to be fact. With that bit of lore (or theory) in mind, let’s examine another verse from scripture.
“As for the ten horns,
out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise,
and another shall arise after them;
he shall be different from the former ones,
and shall put down three kings.”
Daniel 7:24
This passage describes the antichrist killing three kings. Three HERALDS. John, Jacob, and Faith. Sure, the Deputy is the one who actually does the killing, but whose orders are they following? The Sheriff’s. Do you really think the antichrist is someone to get their hands dirty? Oh no. The antichrist is first and foremost a trickster and a deceiver. He gets other people to do his bidding for him.
The parallels don’t stop there either. Remember that Joseph Seed is the supposed second coming, right? Yet Whitehorse is there to bring him in for a trial and likely jail time after. This following passage describes just what is going to happen to those who follow Christ.
“But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them.”
Mark 13:9
You will stand before governors and kings to bear witness. LITERALLY a trial! For one’s religion, in fact. Which is exactly what Whitehorse intended to do with Joseph Seed. But wait, there’s more!
The Role of Sheriff
Why a sheriff? Why not have the antichrist be a mercenary? Or even a businessman? Let’s think about a Sheriff. By and large, a Sheriff is supposed to make you feel safe. They’re there to protect the innocent from those who would do them harm. It places them in a position of power and authority. It’s this latter aspect which is the most important.
“Also it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them. And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation.”
Revelation 13:7
This passage in the book of Revelations discusses how the antichrist was given a place of authority to destroy the Saints and their followers. More than that, they were given the authority to basically do what they needed over everyone in the country. Their word is law. What kind of sector has that much power? Law enforcement. It gets better, too.
“The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders.”
2 Thessalonians 2:9
Throughout the Bible, the antichrist is called the lawless one. Seriously, go do a bit of searching, and you’ll find frequent passages that describes the antichrist as ‘the lawless one,’ or ‘one who is lawless.’ What better way for the antichrist to disguise himself than as a lawman? He seems to be upholding the law when in reality he’s trying to stop Joseph Seed (the second coming of Christ) from saving God’s children. The antichrist doesn’t want God’s followers to be saved. He wants them to be destroyed so he can populate the earth with followers of his own. By making Whitehorse a Sheriff, Ubisoft wants to make its audience immediately trust and respect him. They want us to believe that Whitehorse is the good guy. Because that’s exactly what the antichrist would do to us.
The Death of the Antichrist
There’s good news, however. The antichrist is eventually defeated. This bible verse describes it and also offers one last piece of evidence to suggest that Whitehorse is actually the antichrist.
“By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great. Without warning he shall destroy many. And he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken—but by no human hand.”
Daniel 8:25
No human hand is able to kill the antichrist. Since the “resist” option at the end of Farcry 5 is held to be the canon ending for the game, we know that Sheriff Earl Whitehorse dies during the nuclear strike. Sure, you can argue that some human hand pressed the button to unleash the nuclear strike, but the strike is what kills him. Burned up in its flames.
Besides that, the Bible says that Jesus is victorious over the antichrist. Who survives at the end of the game? Joseph Seed. Our Messiah. By the time the Collapse is over, the world above them is transformed into the Garden promised by God and the Messiah. The antichrist is defeated.
